AirAsia, which has obtained a judgment requiring known Umno blogger Salahuddin Hashim to pay RM5 million to the airline for libel, has now filed bankruptcy proceedings against the blogger.

Salahuddin, who operates the blog anotherbrickinwall.blogspot.com, was ordered by Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Justice Nor Bee Ariffin to pay the RM5 million in aggravated and exemplary damages for an article titled ‘AirAsia crash?’

The article was put up on the blog on April 9, in 2013.

AirAsia claimed the article is false and hence had defamed the budget air carrier.

The judgment was made against Salahuddin in September last year.

“AirAsia, which obtained a judgment and an injunction in a defamation suit against Salahuddin, has now proceeded to file bankruptcy proceedings against the blogger for failing to pay the RM5 million aggravated and examplary damages awarded by the court,” AirAsia said in a statement.

A search of the court case shows that a judgment in default was entered against the blogger.

AirAsia filed the suit on April 19, 2013, where among others it sought RM5 million in total damages and an injunction against the blogger not to repeat or republish the article. The airlines also sought that the blogger publish an apology over the article in The Star and the New Straits Times.
