The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said it will wait for the Auditor-General’s report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) before starting its own probe.

This despite then Umno divisional leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan’s report on 1MDB to the anti-graft body close to two months ago.

"If you look at the statement by the prime minister, the auditor will investigate and present the report to the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee.

"If there is a case (of corruption), then they will raise the matter to the MACC,” MACC commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed is quoted as saying by Bernama today.

Last week, Prime Minister and 1MDB board of advisors chairperson Najib Abdul Razak instructed the Auditor-General to verify 1MDB’s accounts.

He said the report will be scrutinised by the bi-partisan the Public Accounts Committee after it is completed.

Najib said action will be taken against any wrongdoing.

The public audit was called after a Sarawak Report exposé alleging that 1MDB tranferred US$700 million (RM2.5 billion) to a company controlled by tycoon Jho Low, who is linked to Najib's family.

The deal was part of a now defunct 2009 joint venture between 1MDB and PetroSaudi International.

PetroSaudi said all the funds 1MDB invested into the venture went to PetroSaudi firms, while Low said the exposé is untrue.

Low said that he was consulted on the 1MDB-PetroSaudi deal but denied engaging in anything criminal.

Khairuddin (above) , who lodged the MACC report against 1MDB on Jan 15, was sacked as Batu Kawan Umno deputy division chief on Feb 28.
