Shortly after PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli revealed his assets and expenditure, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang tweeted that "someone" turned to opposition politics after being dropped from a GLC.

"He was earning near RM500k per year at GLC. He joined opposition after not being retained by the GLC. No wonder he's against the government," Tan tweeted.

However, when contacted, Tan said he was not referring to anyone in particular and if someone felt slighted by his tweet, that person should clarify matters in public.

"Whoever that 'felt it' should feel free to clarify the situation. I didn't name anyone to avoid embarrassing the person," he said.

Asked what then was the purpose of his tweet, Tan said he is free to express himself on Twitter.

Shortly after he was contacted, Tan posted several more tweets, this time commending Rafizi for disclosing his assets.

"A distinction between him and Anwar Ibrahim. Time for Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Nurul Izzah to declare Anwar's wealth?

"So will Wan Azizah and Nurul Izzah disclose Anwar's wealth after the brilliant move by Rafizi (in) disclosing his assets?" Tan asked.

Rafizi might sue

However, Rafizi is certain that Tan’s initial tweet had targeted him and is mulling taking legal action against the Gerakan Youth chief.

"I have often been slandered by claims that I was sacked from my GLC post.

"I have explained at length that I resigned and the resignation letter can be seen on my blog ," Rafizi told Malaysiakini .

He said he would consult his lawyers on the possibility of suing Tan for defamation.

"After all, I need some money," he quipped.

Earlier today, the Pandan lawmaker made good on his promise to declare his assets through a statutory declaration that was posted on his website.
