Malaysians must develop self efficacy in facing natural disasters such as flood and not rely just on rescue agencies, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim said today.

In a written reply to Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (BN-Tanah Merah), Shahidan said the public should "emulate" developed countries such as Japan, where the onus to save oneself and avoid casualties starts with the individual.

Late last year saw Malaysia's worst flood crisis in over three decades which saw over 200,000 people displaced due to floods across five states.
