Continuing with their protest against the government’s alleged ongoing political harassment of politicians and activists, PKR assemblypersons have decided to take the head shaving event to four other states.

The initiative, organised by three assemblypersons - Lee Chean Chung of Semambu, Lee Khai Loon of Machang Bubuk and Tan Kar Hing of Simpang Pulai - is meant to show their “determination to fight for justice”.

“We will continue to organise protest and solidarity action in the grassroots levels in the different states.

“This Saturday, we will organise an event in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, the home state of Anwar Ibrahim. We expect around 50 people to show up at this event,” Khai Loon told Malaysiakini today.

The event in Penang will take place at Galeri Pejuang Cherok Tok Kun, and on Sunday, another one will take place in Johor, organised by Kulai MP Jimmy Phua Wee Tse.

This will be followed by other events in Pahang and in Perak.

Calling their initiative a success, Chean Chung said that they had received constant calls from the public regarding the event.

Yesterday, more than 15 people shaved their heads bald in front of the Parliament House to protest the jailing of Anwar.

The event involved the organising trio as well as Kota Kinabalu MP Jimmy Wong, Pasir Puteh MP Nik Maizan Nik Mohamad and a number of supporters.

Khai Loon ( right ) added that there are plans to organise a women’s head shaving event as most of the participants are male, and they would like to encourage gender equality.

He also urged the public who are unable to attend the events to go to hair salons or barbers, shave their heads bald, take a picture and post it on Kita Lawan’s Facebook page.

“A lot of people wants to participate in our movement. We hope the ‘reformasi’ movement will blossom everywhere and anywhere in Malaysia,” Khai Loon added.

As for the hair they had collected, the trio may consult NGOs or organisations that might have a need for hair.

However, hours after their protest, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tabled a special motion , which was passed with a majority vote, barring activities such as shaving heads from taking place in front of the Parliament gates.
