Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar has questioned the auditor-general’s sincerity in auditing debt-ridden 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

He expressed concern the auditor-general may only be complying with the prime minister’s directive, in order to issue a ‘halal certificate’ to clear 1MDB of any misdeeds.

“I’m worried the audit will only be done to comply with a directive, to issue a ‘halal’ ceritificate so that all the financial mismanagement, swindling, abuse of power and breach of trust, committed by 1MDB will disappear,” he said.

Mahfuz ( left ) also questioned the auditor-general’s credibility to audit 1MDB.

“I question the auditor-generals credibility, because the audit done by the auditor-general’s office regarding the management of the National Youth Day celebrations 2011 and 2013 till now has not been tabled in  parliament,” he said.

In light of this, the PAS information chief has filed a motion to establish a royal commission of inquiry to probe the state-owned investment arm.

However his motion was rejected by the Dewan Rakyat speaker, as an audit has already been ordered.

Mahfuz hopes a Barisan Nasional representative will file a similar motion, which he said will be supported by him and other opposition leaders.
