Kim Quek: What an apt title for this story. It shows Malaysiakini is right on the ball on the intrigue raging in the undercurrent of mainstream Malaysian politics.

 

The explicit and subtle fistfights among warlords of Umno, from both inside and outside of government, should be obvious to keen observers that Umno today (legally known as Umno Baru since 1988) is a totally different political animal from the original Umno (de-registered in a Dr Mahathir Mohamad-Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah power play in 1988 and hence extinct).

 

The idealism that had driven the nationalists to form Umno is now replaced by the god of money and power.

 

That is why we see money politics running wild in every Umno Baru party election and that is also why we see Umno Baru government leaders are preoccupied with grabbing power and money, leaving the running of the state to consultants and others.

 

The result is a nation drifting in economic stagnation while moving towards authoritarianism amidst escalating racial and religious extremism. Can’t we see where such Umno Baru rule will lead us to?

Iiiizzzziiii: This is typical of an ambitious man who thought he is prime minister-designate, holding a mighty sword and cutting away all his fellow competitors, but no one has informed him that the sword is double-edged.

 

Like a fool, he also cut himself but the irony is that he has chosen to blame others for his shortcomings.

 

Headhunter: Arrogance has its downside. He thought the world was his and all must kowtow to him. In short, he fell on his own sword.

 

Fair Play: The real challenge is whether this 'wounded' tiger can survive in the 'concrete' jungle, especially when he is completely out of his depth. I think not.

 

Abasir: Zahid better watch it. Or should he watch out? Whatever the case, (see-through or stainless steel back), his movements are being watched by paid hands that hold dark secrets.

 

As the hours turn to minutes and seconds, it is perhaps time to review the entire collection (of letters?) in his possession before deciding whether his time (or theirs) is up.

 

Anonymous$&@?: When the rakyat asked the home minister to declare what honourable 'service' Paul Phua has rendered to our country, he replied that the documents are under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

 

I am sure that his predecessors can now see the true colours and character of this person, who is ever willing to snitch on his comrades-in-arms to protect his own skin.

 

The big question is will his comrade-in-arms wants such a character to be in their midst; one who is ever willing to turn the tables on them when the chips are down.

 

Smer: If he doesn't reveal, isn't that against the law? Isn't there a law that incriminates people who hide evidence of wrongdoing?

 

RCZ: Yup, might as well take all the others down with him. They’re all the same and deserve their misdeeds to surface and deserve the criticisms and ridicule that they got and will continue to get.

 

Otakechik: It is not a question if this politician (a Muslim leader) had profited from issuing the letter, but he had a sinful relationship with an alleged gambling kingpin. Is it acceptable for the Muslim community?

 

Legit: A tiger is an animal equated with fierceness, sharp focus, elegance and refined tactics in preying on its victims. Tiger Woods fits this description.

 

The home minister is nowhere near this description and he should be more aptly equated and described as a wild boar.

 

A wild boar has no sense of focus but it just scours the earth and leave mass destruction. It attacks its victim with no sense of strategy or purpose. That's what exactly what the home minister is.

 

Snake-in-the-Grass: What a flowery description. I would just say he's a dead (or dying) toad in the marshes.

 

Axolotl: Don't insult the animal kingdom by comparing Zahid with any of them. Well, overfed hyena does apply, admittedly.

 

Angel: This wounded tiger will soon be a stray cat.
