Although it has a history of being vocal against top leadership, the Shah Alam PAS division today became the first division to opt for Hadi to stay in his post, in the lead up to party polls in June.

It did so at the division general assembly today, where it is understood that several candidates were proposed besides Hadi as president.

Senior leaders in the division when contacted declined to name the others considered but said Shah Alam chose Hadi after the decision was put to the ballot.

The division also opts for status quo in the party leadership, nominating incumbent deputy president Mohamad Sabu for the number two post and the three vice presidents to retain their positions.

The three vice presidents are Salahuddin Ayub, Husam Musa and Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Earlier, when met at the sidelines of the meeting PAS’ Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad said the division wants unity in the party.

He also said statements to discourage divisions from nominating Hadi is backfiring because it makes it seem that Hadi is losing support.

Factional wars is heating up in PAS in the lead up to the polls, which could see a contest for the top post for the first time the party’s 63-year history.

Tuan Ibrahim declined Kota Bahru’s nomination that he contest for president while Husam has yet to respond to Kota Tinggi’s nomination that he take the top post.

The party constitution requires at least two nominations for a candidacy.
