Just what wrong did Borders manager do?
YOURSAY ‘Three courts found her innocent, but Jawi still tormenting her.’
Hell-bent Jawi files appeal on Borders case
FellowMalaysian:
Jawi had already gone to extremes in getting Borders bookstore manager Nik Raina Nik Abdul Aziz into trouble as they have taken her to the Civil High Court and also the Court of Appeal.
Further, she was also tried under the Syariah High Court. Though all three courts have found Nik Raina not guilty, Jawi's insatiable hunger to see her convicted has resulted in it dragging her back into the Federal Court and also the Syariah's Court of Appeal.
What unconscionable wrong did Nik Raina do to deserve such humiliation to be placed right in front of Jawi's gun barrel? Is she targeted as the bogeyman in Jawi's all-out attempt to make someone responsible for distributing the book?
Nik Raina is just a poor bookstore manager and what books the store sells, is totally out of her control especially at Borders.
For being at the receiving end of Jawi's cruelty which seems hell-bent to prolong her anguish and torment, I urge the public to voice their unequivocal condemnation of Jawi for bullying Nik Raina.
Commentable: Contrary to what people think, this has nothing to do with religion. It is all about authority and the firm grip of control by those in power in Putrajaya.
There are some cases that Putrajaya just do not like to lose, obvious ones being the Anwar case, the "Allah" case and the C4 murder case. Their method of appealing a case is somewhat akin to the act of repeatedly hammering the nail on the head until they finally get it right, never mind if it's done by hook or by crook.
Aries46: Jawi’s self-professed defenders of the faith have been given multiple 'middle fingers' by both the civil and syariah courts and told off in no uncertain manner.
Malaysians too have made known their utter disgust at its foolish antics on this issue and berated them for going overboard to justify what was clearly an ill-conceived action.
This refers to the illegal raid on the bookstore, confiscation of Irshad Manji’s book that had yet to be banned and the unlawful detention of the store manager Nik Raina, an employee of Borders.
If in spite of all these rebukes and brickbats, they are still bent on getting Nik Raina by hook or crook. It smacks of vengeance with a capital 'V'.
It’s not prosecution anymore but persecution. Jawi’s latest appeal, though within the realm of the syariah system, is untenable and smacks of recalcitrance.
It defies the overwhelming forces that condemn their actions. It merely pits the courts against one and other and subjects the court itself to be on trial.
Senior: Little Napoleans with religious blinkers. How can non-Muslims be not afraid of such conduct?
Haveagreatday: I think the bottom line is that the Jawi prosecutors knows that the higher up the judicial ladder they go, the more likely they will meet a judicial officer of the ‘Umnoputera’ judicial division.
Tok Karut: This is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's door. There is a syariah department in the Prime Minister’s office. This is Nik Raina's struggle. She must remain steadfast in her belief that justice will prevail.
Negarawan: Jawi should be sued for continued harassment and contempt of court. It is time that Jawi be taken to task. A clear message needs to be sent to Jawi and other Islamic bodies that they cannot abuse their religion to wantonly oppress others and cover their own misdeeds and ignorance.
Malaysian 53: This is disgusting and an abuse of power, abuse of court process and most importantly, Jawi is an organisation totally devoid of any officers with human feelings.
Putting this woman through this ordeal speaks a lot about the way Islam is practiced in Malaysia especially by the Islamic Departments and it will not be too long before even Muslims treat these Islamic Department officers with utter contempt.
Why is the AG keeping quiet? Why is Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom condoning such abuse? Why is Jakim quiet? All afraid of the Little Napoleons who run these Islamic organisations?
Shame on you, Umno, and I have a question for senior civil servants such as chief secretary Ali Hamsa, treasury secretary general Mohd Irwan Siregar and others, as to what kind of civil service are you guys running?
Can't you guys do a fraction of what your predecessors (Group of 25 and now 44) are willing to do? Afraid to lose your jobs and rice bowls? Please have some conviction to the Federal Constitution you guys took an oath to.
Asitis: This reminds me of the religious persecution, the witch-hunt, and the Inquisition of the Dark Ages in Europe. Nik Raina is clearly being used as an example to intimidate and instill fear. Is this how Jawi wants the world to see Islam? As a religion of fear and intimidation?
If so it must be very proud of itself. Oh! what sanctimony. We pray for you Nik Raina. May you and your family have the strength and faith to weather this injustice that has been visited upon you. May the force of reason, triumph over the evil of false pride.
Not Smart: Jawi, if you are truly sincere about Islam, why not use your resources to assist and correct those Muslims who are directly/indirectly involved in liquor, cigarettes and cigars industries, and also educate those Muslim ladies who are yet to cover their ‘aurat’?
By you going after a particular person even after the courts had decided her innocence, simply shows that you have ulterior motives. Your performance had not been commendable with the ever-increasing social ills amongst Muslims, which need urgent attention.
Anonymous$&@?: Nik Raina, stay strong. You can be sure that many right thinking Muslims and non-Muslims in Malaysia are behind you.
Move on Jawi, bury your ego and serve the ummah where they most need your help and assistance. Just looking into these two issues can keep you busy all year round. (1) unmarried couples concealing and abandoning their innocent newborn; and (2) Mat Rempit risking their lives and others on the streets.
Make your presence and purpose meaningful, to save your ummah from hellfire in the hereafter and not to serve your paymasters’ unreasonable and selective orders.
Sleepy: In the eyes of many, Jawi's appeal action is insulting Islam which pride itself on justice and fairness. Remember: One is judged by actions not words.
Ren Ai: Recalcitrant Jawi is trying to win battles though they have already lost the war. In the process, they are unaware that they are bordering on criminal harassment.
Shibboleth: Nik Raina said, “I continuously kept asking myself, why do they have to do this to me?" The answer is, it’s because you are a woman and you won the case. When you only read books provided by madrasah schools, instead of by Borders, you become like those narrow-minded Jawi prosecutors.
YOM: What is Jawi doing about corruption and social ills amongst Muslims? Islam does not teach us to be vindictive.
