MIC today declared it will not support the Private Member's Bill on hudud which it described as going against the federal constitution.

Its president, G Palanivel said MIC shared the stand of other BN component parties like MCA and Gerakan on rejecting hudud laws.

"We oppose and will not support (hudud laws). I will issue my statement on hudud laws after this Dewan Rakyat sitting," he told reporters after attending a tea reception between MIC leaders and Penang MIC members in Butterworth today.

Also present was Penang MIC chairman M Karuppanan.

Palanivel, who is Natural Resources and Environment Minister, said Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia would also issue a statement on the matter after the current sitting.
