The police have denied an allegation that policemen had escorted members of MCA to protest over an issue relating to the hudud law at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, two days ago.

Kuala Lumpur police deputy chief Law Hong Soon clarified that the presence of policemen at the gathering was to maintain peace and public order.

He stressed that the police took a serious view of the allegation.

"The Setapak police chief has lodged a report on the matter which is not true and has elements of defamation against the force," he said in a statement here today, on the allegation which was featured in a news portal.
