BFM presenter Aisyah Tajuddin is fortunate that she is a “citizen in the land of Malay people, who are known for their civil behaviour,” said an Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) leader.

"If she was in certain countries whose people are radical, there is a likelihood she would have been murdered without any warning," said Isma information chief Mohd Hazizi Ab Rahman ( left ).

He was responding to the death and rape threats Aisyah received following a satirical video on Kelantan government’s move to implement hudud laws in the state.

Hazizi also refuted Aisyah’s father, retired UTM lecturer Tajuddin Mohd Rasdi’s remarks linking Isma and Perkasa to the issue.

Among others, Tajuddin was reported as saying, "If it’s a murder threat or burning from people like Perkasa or Isma, I think we should be careful but if it came from young teenagers, I don’t think there is much to it and if they catch these people, I would not press charges, it’s enough that they just apologise to my daughter."

The Isma leader, however, argued that the movement’s members are "too nice" to be implicated in such matters.

'Isma sympathetic towards Aisyah'

Meanwhile, Haziz also said Isma is willing to educate Aisyah on proper understanding of Islam.

He added that the door is still open for the BFM presenter to repent and not repeat the same mistake.

"Isma is sympathetic towards Aisyah and those who failed to obtain a wholesome Islamic education leading to misunderstandings and actions that run contrary to the faith.

"Hatred towards a particular political party or leaning towards a particular political understanding should not prompt a Muslim to act beyond boundaries such as insulting Allah’s laws," he added in a statement published in Ismaweb.

Aisyah has since apologised, saying it was not her intention to insult Islam and pointed out that the video was about politics, and not religion.
