Isma: Elsewhere, Aisyah could have been killed

 

Pemerhati: Quote: “‘If she (Aisyah Tajuddin) was in certain countries whose people are radical, there is a likelihood she would have been murdered without any warning,’ said Isma information chief Mohd Hazizi. Hazizi also said Isma is willing to educate Aisyah on proper understanding of Islam.”

 

What Hazizi said is very true. Look at what happened to Malala Yousafzai in Pakistan. All she was advocating was that women in her province should be allowed to have an education but the Taliban thought that it was unIslamic and shot her in the head.

 

Luckily she survived and went on to get a Nobel Prize. Currently Islam comes in many forms and the respective religious scholars interpret and practice the religion in their own way. Everyone of them thinks he is correct and others are wrong.

 

Similarly Hazizi - just like the Taliban, Islamic State (IS) and others - thinks he has the proper understanding of Islam and could teach Aisyah a lesson but just as in the Malala case.

 

Aisyah has done no wrong and Hazizi is indeed behaving like the Taliban. 

 

Asitis: In many civilised countries, what BFM journalist Aisyah did would hardly cause a stir.

 

Her action will be accepted as part and parcel of the democratic process of a democratic society where raising issues and debating them is the norm of the day.

 

What would happen in these countries is some would agree with her and some would disagree and they will each argue their position in a civilised way, supporting their position with facts and figures.

 

If civilised people disagree with you, they debate with you, point against point, fact against fact. They don't go around making threats of violence. Only uncivilised, uncultured, barbaric people make such threats.

 

And only they go around telling Aisyah that she should count herself fortunate for only receiving threats instead of being actually raped and murdered.

 

It’s as if receiving death and rape threats are not bad enough. What type of a man says that to a woman?

 

David Dass: This is where we are today. Threatening to kill or rape Aisyah is not repugnant? This is the problem. All one group has to say is that this is God's law. Then no one can object because to object is to insult the religion.

 

What is the value of our constitution? What happened to freedom of speech? What happened to our democracy? What is the position of those who do not believe that hudud is God's law?

 

What happens to non-Muslims who believe in something altogether different? What happens to the people of Sabah and Sarawak who joined Malaya to form Malaysia on the clear understanding that Islam was not the religion of those two states?

 

Do minorities have no rights? This is the problem when bodies like Perkasa and Isma are given so much latitude.                                 

 

Unafraid: If I were to understand Isma correctly, it would be a norm for Aisyah to be killed for voicing some kind of dissent against the implementation of hudud. If that's so, then perhaps millions of right-thinking Malaysians would be in this category.

 

Aren't we all lucky that people like Isma are so merciful, kind and benevolent?

 

I'm Malaysian: It looks like Isma, Perkasa, and Umno are going Talibanistic. All they know is that Islam will punish with murder, rape and inflicting great pain to Muslims who hold different views about the Islamic penal code.

 

I cannot understand this part of the religion: murder, killing and rape are supposed to be unIslamic. Yet these people consider it is appropriate to punish with murder, killing and rape.

 

Anonymous_1371477558: The trouble with ultra-religious people is that they think their religion is under threat and will take it upon themselves to defend the faith, as if they are doing God's work.

 

In doing so, they play God and become judge and executioner.

                       

YF: Yes, Aisyah would have been violated in a country that implements your kind of Isma-type beliefs.

 

In short, Isma, you also agree with the moderates that implementing religious laws can be easily abused and is dangerous for unchecked violence. It goes to show how often you contradict yourself.

 

So by Isma's silly logic, the Hindus who didn't go on a rampage when a cow’s head was kicked at a protest or the Christians who didn't go on a rampage when their churches got burnt, that means they are more civilised than Isma?

 

Dr Suresh Kumar: This is how the narcissists think and act. These Neanderthals are simply incapable of comparing the country with progressive nations.

 

Wawasan 2020 will remain a wishful thinking till eternity. Thanks to former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who wanted to challenge PAS' Islamic credentials and tried to make Umno more Islamic than PAS to win Malay/Muslim votes.

 

In the end, it's all about votes, power, money and positions. It has nothing to do with religion as these corrupt Muslims would like us to believe.

Justine Gow: If anyone needs to be re-educated, it is those who think they are free to murder and rape someone whenever they feel offended.
