DAP is resorting to personal attacks against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang because it cannot accept that Hadi refused to bow down to its demands, PAS’ Temerloh MP Nasrudin Hasan said.

His statement comes as PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar tells DAP to retract its statement that DAP will "cut ties" with "dishonest and dishonourable Hadi".

DAP on Tuesday said it will cut ties with Hadi because Hadi went behind Pakatan Rakyat’s back to table a private member’s bill in Parliament to pave the way for hudud, but DAP will still work with PAS.

"Simply said, DAP failed to make Hadi dance to their tune and it is convinced there are PAS leaders who will dance to that tune.

"This is why they are still hedging on being with PAS in Pakatan, despite rejecting Hadi as PAS president," Nasrudin (right) said in a statement.

He said this also means that DAP is trying to sway PAS’ party polls scheduled for June, to push for a president which "suits their tastes".

Hadi did not become president "through by-pass surgery or through a ceremony under a tree" but was elected by the party's more than a million people, he said.

"DAP has no right to intervene in PAS’ decision on who its president is. If PAS chooses Hadi then he is the best president for PAS."

In a separate statement, Mahfuz (left) said PAS-DAP cooperation cannot go on if DAP does not respect the PAS president.

He said PAS leaders will stand by their president.

"DAP is led by veteran leaders so should act in a statesmanly manner and not be immature or childish like this.

"Statesmen know how to be open and tolerant when it comes to disagreements and not just think of personal interest," he said.

"Baseless" accusations that Hadi worked with Umno on hudud is also ironic, he said, given DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang's "save Malaysia" coalition government proposal between Pakatan and BN.

"Isn’t this a betrayal to Pakatan and breaches the Pakatan common policy framework and consensus?" he asked.

Lim suggested a coalition government consisting of representatives from Pakatan and BN, to defend the federal constitution.
