Hudud not part of police chief's job description
COMMENT Before delving into inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar’s warning about a possible terrorist strike because of the hudud debate in Malaysia, let us look at a recent development in India.
On Tuesday, the Indian Supreme Court struck down Section 66A of the Information Technology Act, which was deemed unconstitutional for it restricts freedom of speech.
The section authorised the police to arrest people for social media posts construed as offensive or menacing. And the offenders faced the risk of imprisonment. Rings a bell?
