Former Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim dropped his defamation lawsuit against his predecessor Khir Toyo after Khir apologised for accusing him of corruption.

Khir accused Khalid of corruption in the purchase of 46 cows meant for Hari Raya Aidiladha sacrificial rites and a Lexus car in 2008, when Khalid was the MB.

"I believe the apology was sincere and sufficient to reclaim my dignity and integrity as a leader and a Muslim.

"I don’t want to waste the court's time and energy on something that has nothing to do with the development of the nation, religion and people

"The settlement did not involve monetary damages because I want to inculcate values which are more meaningful that ringgit and sen," Khalid said in a statement.

He said he hopes the case can teach society, especially politicians, to not make baseless accusations.

Malaysia needs to change from politics of slander, he said.

Khalid was accused of spending taxpayers' money to buy 46 cows that were slaughtered and distributed in his constituency during the Hari Raya Aidiladha festival in December 2008.

He was also accused of using funds belonging to state-owned firms to buy a Lexus SUV worth nearly RM1 million, and maintaining it at government expense.

Khalid denied all charges and was cleared by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Khalid was MB from 2008 to 2014 while Khir was MB from 2000 to 2008.
