Some 5,000 volunteers of the Malaysia Youth Council (MBM) will monitor the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which will be implemented this Wednesday.
MBM president Mu'ammar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaluddin said the monitoring would be carried out jointly with domestic trade, cooperatives and consumerism ministry enforcement officers.
"The volunteers will be mobilised as our eyes and ears, in addition to providing information on GST to the public," he said during an MBM supreme council press conference today.
Mu'amar Ghadafi said this would help all parties to be alert and report to the authorities if shops were found to raise the price of goods, not included in the GST certification list.
MBM would also collect information and reports from consumers and forward them to the authorities, he added.
