KINIBIZ Mydin Mohamed Holdings’ managing director Ameer Ali Mydin has assured his customers that the hypermarket has not gone back on its promise to absorb any cost increases in April stemming from the implementation of the goods and service tax (GST).

This comes after shoppers circulated Mydin’s receipts on social media yesterday and questioned why the receipts showed GST had been charged despite its promise that it would not do so.

However Ameer ( right ) refuted the allegations and explained that Mydin was legally required to indicate the tax paid on its receipts, but in this case the hypermarket would absorb that cost rather than pass it on to the shopper.

He explained that Mydin’s promise was that it would not raise prices despite the implementation of GST and that what a customer paid on March 31, would be the same price paid on April 1.

“So if you bought goods from us on March 31, 2015 and you buy the same things in April the total amount you pay will be the same. This means the GST portion needed, will be paid by Mydin,” said the MD.
