Suspended PKR member Badrul Hisham Shaharin has slammed a prominent lawmaker from his party for calling on former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad to help resolve the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.

“I am appalled with the statement made by a Pakatan Rakyat MP whom the media reported as openly asking for Mahathir to help in the 1MDB issue,” Badrul said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Badrul - better known as Chegubard - said it was ironic to seek help from Mahathir whom he labelled a ‘pirate’.

“To seek help from a pirate who destroyed the country’s system and became the founder of the huge deviation trend is the same as asking a pirate to solve a theft,” he said.

The Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) founder, however, refused to name the politician during his press conference today but dropped a broad hint that he could be referring to PKR Vice- President Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi was recently reported to have urged Mahathir and Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to step in to help in the return of a loan given by Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) to SRC International in 2011. SRC International was then a subsidiary of 1MDB.

Badrul ( above ) said the individual he was referring to was not focusing on the main task of rescuing opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim from imprisonment but instead had stooped low enough to seek Mahathir’s help.

People can judge themselves

“I do not understand how this Pakatan MP, who should be focusing on Anwar, can just forget this just like that and ask for Mahathir’s help instead,” he said.

When asked to comment on Chegubard’s claims, Rafizi said he saw no wrong in asking prominent leaders like Mahathir and Muhyiddin to be firm in making sure public funds were not misused.

“The context of my statement called on Mahathir and Muhyiddin to be firm in making sure that no public money was misused. It is a fair statement to anyone who is in public office or has held a position in public office before,” Rafizi ( left ) explained.

The Pandan MP also called on Badrul Hisham to focus more on attacking the ruling coalition instead of taking potshots at people on the same side.

Rafizi urged the public not to take the claims made by Badrul seriously and instead judge for themselves what Pakatan lawmakers have done in the case of Anwar and the 1MDB imbroglio.

“The public should not take the words of a suspended party member who has a grudge against the party seriously.

“They can judge and see for themselves how we have fought and put our necks on the line to reveal the truth. They are aware,” Rafizi said.

Badrul was suspended from PKR last May for claiming that the party election process was dirty and that its election committee was secretly aligned to certain candidates to enable them to win.
