PKR has urged DAP and PAS to close ranks and focus on pressing matters affecting the public.

In a press release today, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the two warring parties should resolve their differences on the negotiation table and not in public.

"This does not imply we ignore the differences of opinion we have, but if those differences are framed by the agenda to defend the rakyat, I am certain they can be resolved," said Wan Azizah.

Wan Azizah added that she is working on a Pakatan leadership council meeting to be held within two weeks.

Pakatan's leadership council was once a regular affair until PAS decided to pursue its plan to implement hudud law in Kelantan.

The last time the council met was Feb 9, a day before PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was jailed.

Collective wisdom

Wan Azizah said that she was very concerned about recent developments in Pakatan, including the increasing isolation of PAS in East Malaysia.

"While I respect the positions and autonomy of DAP and PKR in Sabah and Sarawak, I hope that these decisions can also be discussed in greater detail at the leadership council level in the very near future," she said.

Apart from internal matters, Wan Azizah said that the meeting should also four other issues affecting the public: 1) The implementation of GST, 2) The recent crackdown on activists, opposition figures and media practitioners, 3) Flood relief efforts, and; 4) Preparations for upcoming elections, in particular the Sarawak state elections.

"I believe the Rakyat need political leadership that prioritises the agenda to defend the rakyat and try to resolve differences with wisdom.

"I pray that all Pakatan leaders are given the strength by Allah to fortify the bond between us in order to face BN at a time when numerous problems continue to pile pressure on the rakyat," she said.
