Deputy Kelantan Menteri Besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has denied Malay daily Berita Harian ’s report where he was quoted citing a “message” left by the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Berita Harian had quoted Mohd Amar as saying that Nik Aziz had told PAS members to be amicable with Umno.

Nevertheless, Mohd Amar in a Facebook post denied that he had said so.

“I refer to the Berita Harian report dated April 3 which quoted me in relation to Tok Guru Nik Aziz’s message.

“The report is inaccurate, malicious and defamatory. Fellow readers can refer to my full speech which was recorded by the organisers to obtain the accurate information,” he said.

Mohd Amar was quoted by the Malay daily as saying that Nik Aziz’s message before his death was for PAS to foster a good relationship with its arch-rival, Umno.

Berita Harian had reported that the deputy menteri besar said this to some 3,000 supporters at a ceramah in Kota Baru.

“Today, I will reveal a secret and speak about the late (Nik Aziz’s) message because issues have been raised by PAS members that supposedly, PAS has fallen into Umno’s trap by agreeing to discuss on hudud.

“Why must this issue be raised when PAS already has a long-standing relationship with the federal government? In fact, throughout Nik Aziz’s rule (as Kelantan menteri besar), this relationship already existed,” Mohd Amar was quoted as saying.

The Islamist party continues to be slammed by its coalition partners, especially the DAP, for pursuing its plans to implement hudud in Kelantan.

The Kelantan state legislative assembly had unanimously passed the hudud bill, with the full support of Umno assemblypersons.
