Phua has no criminal record in M’sia, says Zahid

                        

Aries46: The rather disappointing manner of his response to Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo's questions belies the attitude of this so-called home minister and tells plenty of his inner self.

 

When he could write a letter in support of an alleged kingpin/operator of an illegal betting ring arrested here in 2004 and subsequently arrested and charged for a similar offence in Las Vegas, all that Zahid could manage to justify his actions, considered highly damaging and an abuse of his position, was a curtly one-liner that “(Paul) Phua did not have a police or criminal record.”

 

Notwithstanding his claim of Phua's national security assistance, the validity or details of which has thus far remained elusive or secluded, is it Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's contention that not having a police record absolves Phua from known wrongdoings, allegedly running an online betting ring, on record here and elsewhere?

 

Peacemaker: So what if he has no police record. There are lots of people who do not have police records that you, as a "proper and upright citizen", should not be cavorting with, let alone writing untrue and glowing testimonials for.

 

Fernz: The question is not whether Phua has a criminal record in Malaysia. The question is whether he has a criminal record.

 

If Phua has a criminal record, why is Putrajaya working with him on national security projects? A known felon like Phua, already facing criminal charges in the United States, is not the right partner to work with Putrajaya on national security projects.

 

Justice Pao: In Malaysia, carpets can appear mysteriously from one room to the next, DNA can strangely be in pristine in condition in an alleged rape victim’s anus, a college dropout can be assessed for a scholarship, jet engines can be removed and transported to other countries by two 'superhumans', and best of all as Najib Abdul Razak said, “You help me, I help you” so records can also be 'helped' to disappear.

 

Apapunboleh: Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu has no immigration entry record, but her body was found in Shah Alam.

 

Swipenter: If immigration records can be erased, what more police records? A piece of cake?

Versey: To all those who knew that Phua had been arrested in Miri in 2004 of similar crime committed, there's no better response than "utter rubbish"  to that statement: "According to police records, Phua does not have previous criminal record” in Malaysia. Period.

 

Bystander: Isn't crime committed in Sabah and Sarawak categorically classified as criminal records in the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) unless, these two states are not recognised as part of Malaysia?

 

Clearwater: Records can be easily doctored in Bolehland. Just like certifying someone assisted in matters of national security. Who's to dispute such 'official secrets' no matter how dubious?

 

BernieBaby: But Phua has a criminal record in the US now. So how?

 

MatiLoh: So if you are a murderer, a criminal, a gangster, a convict, as long as it is not in Malaysia, you are fine here. What sort of minister is this?

 

Opah: Phua is now a citizen of Montenegro and he was travelling on a Montenegrin passport when he was arrested in Las Vegas.

 

At the time of his arrest, he was reported to be the Montenegrin ambassador to the US. Why on earth is the home minister of Malaysia going out of his way to defend a Montenegrin citizen?

 

Surely Zahid should have just left Phua's case to Montenegro.

 

Anonymous #19098644: Do ministers give letters of support to foreign governments upon the request of lawyers of alleged criminals?

 

So if he doesn't know or is associated with the alleged criminal, but some lawyer or another asks him to give a letter of support, the Malaysian government ministers will then give one to the lawyer?

 

This nincompoop thinks that the rakyat are all idiots like his party members.

 

YF: It’s amazing how when one is arrested they have no records in our Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) files. No wonder crime is on the increase.

 

Artong Penang: What the home minister had just said is akin to a prostitute telling all her clients that she is a virgin.

 

Basically: What does matter is that Paul Phua's son has pleaded guilty. So it is highly unlikely that Phua himself is innocent unless by some Hollywood twist of the story.

 

Zahid never explained why he had to bow down to Paul's lawyer to ask for a potential criminal's return and his so-called value to our security. Can any lawyer just ask a minister for such a high-level testimony, just like that?

 

And don’t forget, Zahid said PDRM's earlier info to FBI was wrong in the process. So who is telling the truth?

 

Hplooi: Perhaps Phua is in a Mexican standoff situation with the Malaysian government (or key officials in the government)? Thus his "special status"? Go figure.
