Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin fully agrees with Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in asking the Selangor sports contingent to change its 'Kita Lawan' slogan for the 2016 Malaysia Games (Sukma).
"As sports minister, I agree with the Sultan of Selangor that sports should not be politicised, and that politics must never enter into sports.
"It is not a simple slogan, a political slogan is being used in the campaign.
"I hold to a principle that sport should never be politicised and the act of the Selangor Government has created an uneasy feeling among athletes," he said, adding that even the Selangor Sports Association was very uncomfortable that the slogan had been chosen.
He was speaking to reporters after the launch of the state-level Fit Malaysia event which was attended by Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem at Padang Merdeka, Kuching today.
The slogan in question is also used in Pakatan Rakyat's campaign to free jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who is serving a five-year jail sentence for sodomy.
