Seven more PAS divisions have rejected incumbent party deputy president Mohamad Sabu, opting to nominate his rival Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for the post instead.

 

Surprisingly, this includes the Batu Kawan division in Penang where Mohamad is the state PAS commissioner, Mingguan Malaysia reported today.

All seven want a Hadi-Tuan Ibrahim combo to lead PAS, as questions emerge over whether PAS will remain in Pakatan Rakyat.

 

Jerlun, Merbok, and Hulu Terengganu divisions have also nominated incumbent vice president Tuan Ibrahim for the number two post, Mingguan reported.

The other three divisions which nominated Tuan Ibrahim (left) are Lenggong, Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam, BH Ahad and Bernama reported.

Lenggong is in Pahang, where Tuan Ibrahim is state commissioner, while Kuala Langat and Sabak Bernam are in Selangor.

Each candidate has to secure at least two divisions to qualify to contest in the June party elections.

Both Hadi and Mohamad have secured enough nominations to defend their posts while Tuan Ibrahim has enough nominations to run for the number two spot.

Ahmad Awang now qualified for presidency race

Meanwhile, former vice president Ahmad Awang qualified for the presidency race after securing his second nomination, this time from the Jelebu division, which also nominated Mohamad for number two.

Another person who can opt to join the battle for the number one spot is incumbent president Husam Musa, who has secured at least eight nominations including from Tanjung Piai today.

Tanjung Piai wants him to pair up with Mohamad, who it nominated as deputy president.

The 61st PAS general assembly (muktamar) will be held in Kuala Selangor from June 2 to June 6, with central delegates voting on the party’s top leadership.

The crucial muktamar will decide if Pakatan can survive as a tripartite coalition, with the likes of Mohamad, Husam and Ahmad (right) believed to be Pakatan-friendly.

While Tuan Ibrahim is Hadi’s protege, he had in the recent months lauded PAS' cooperation with Pakatan.

DAP has cut ties with Hadi, albeit not with PAS, accusing Hadi of acting unilaterally without consulting the Pakatan leadership council on matters like hudud .
