Sabah MCA’s Wilfred Yong sworn in as senator
Sabah MCA liaison chairperson Wilfred Yong Chen Leong, 42, today took an oath as a senator before Senate president Abu Zahar Ujang.
Sabah MCA liaison chairperson Wilfred Yong Chen Leong, 42, today took an oath as a senator before Senate president Abu Zahar Ujang.
Yong, who is also an MCA central committee member and chairperson of Sepanggar MCA, was appointed for a term of three years.
Yong has served as the National MCA Youth vice-chairperson and Sabah MCA Youth chief for a period of five years, from 2008 to 2013.
He is a law graduate from the University of Tasmania, Australia, and holds an MBA from Preston University, USA.
After the swearing-in, Abu Zahar congratulated Yong and took the opportunity to remind members of the senate to carry out their responsibilities as national lawmakers effectively.
He advised members to debate with the best possible arguments, and not to drag or politicise the issues so that the senate could make informed and effective decisions for the betterment of the society.
The Dewan Negara for this term will meet for 11 days until April 28, and will discuss, and is expected to approve the debate on the motion of appreciation for the Royal Address and 15 bills passed in the Dewan Rakyat.
