The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) denied threatening to sack religious teacher Ekhsan Bukharee Badarul Hisham after he held a press conference at the Selangor state secretariat yesterday.

Jais officers did not threaten Ekhsan but only sought an explanation over the alleged wrongdoing by Jais, the department's director Haris Kasim told Sinar Harian.

He added that Ekhsan was only hired as a part-time employee, and should adhere to his contract.

"We were reminding him about employment contract, (we did) not ( his demands," he reportedly said.

Ekhsan earlier to claimed he was threatened with the sack if he continues to make media statements.

This after last week’s incident where he shed tears after blocked from meeting Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives to to demand that the election manifesto is fulfilled.

Ekhsan had visited the state secretariat office to urge Selangor Menteri Besar to Azmin Ali to explain why allowances for Quranic studies (Kafa) teachers were not raised from RM1,212 a month to RM1,500 as per the Pakatan Rakyat election manifesto.

"One of (the Jais officers) threatened me to make me stop the press conference. He said if I continued, I need not come to school anymore the next day or the days after," Ekhsan reportedly said.

In response, Selangor Umno deputy chairperson Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan said Jais was acting unreasonably against Ekhsan over the allowance issue.

He said the young ustaz’s attempt to meet Pakatan reps was probably the last resort, after his rights were denied.
