Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim has been appointed acting Selangor Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson after the opposition BN camp in the state assembly refused the post.

Ng was appointed in a ceremony this morning. it follows  the resignation of Shamsuddin Mohd Lias as Selangor assembly opposition leader last December, after he rejected several requests to take up the state PAC post.

Today’s PAC meeting was the first meeting since October 2014 following the top post being vacant due to the refusal of BN to name a new candidate for the position.

Ng will stay as acting PAC chief until the state assembly receives a nomination for the position from the opposition.

Meanwhile, Balakong assemblyperson Ng Tien Chee flayed the BN opposition in the state for giving ridiculous reasons for not accepting the post, which the BN has claimed to be lopsided to the Pakatan Rakyat government.

“I am ashamed with the actions of the BN assemblypersons in not performing their duties as opposition assemblypersons to monitor and check the state expenses and fund management.

“Shamsuddin ( above, left ) gave an excuse that the number of members (on his side) was not equal and that PAC was monopolised by Pakatan assemblypersons.

“This excuse does not make sense and it proves that they are not mature and do not understand the true meaning of democracy,” Tien Chee said in a statement today.

'BN's refusal to head PCA uncalled for'

He said the BN’s refusal to head PAC was uncalled for as Selangor had already gazetted an amendment passed at the state assembly sitting last December for the state opposition leader to be the PAC chief.

Tien Chee ( right ) also explained the number of members in any particular state assembly committee was decided according to the respective parties, unlike what Shamsuddin claimed.

He also believes that another reason why the state BN was reluctant to accept the PAC post is the fear that Pakatan MPs may someday take over the PAC post in Parliament.

The Pakatan government in Selangor has been adamant that a BN representative should head the state PAC position, despite much reluctance from the state opposition camp.
