Selangor PAS said today it has not received any complaints about smear campaigns related to the coming party elections being carried out at division levels, despite election committee chairperson Asmuni Awi claiming otherwise.

This comes after Asmuni revealed that the victims of the smear campaigns included Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.

“Selangor PAS has not received any serious complaints on elections at division levels this year,” the party’s state commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said.

Iskandar ( left ) said the elections are taking place without a hitch, despite the competition among the candidates, and the Selangor PAS elections are expected to end in early May.

“The general meetings in the divisions have been going on smoothly and are expected to end in early May.

“Even though there is competition for positions in the party, the competitions are in the spirit of goodwill and Muslim brotherhood,” Iskandar said in a statement today.

While reiterating that “party members have been educated to avoid taking low blows like slander and making fun of one another”, he advised everyone to be careful while using the social media, which he said could be used to confuse the people.

“In this era, where the social media is used widely, all parties are advised to be careful with whatever information they receive.

“If it is confusing or against the principles of Islam, it should not be entertained,” Iskandar warned.

Asmuni yesterday admitted that the current election process is tainted with smear campaigns.

He also said the existence of such campaign practices in party elections is no longer a secret and has been going on for some time.
