PAS polls committee admits dirty election

Mushiro: PAS election committee chairperson Asmuni Awi is aware of smear campaigns and other un-Islamic tactics used in this ongoing party election but is at a loss to react to this.

For a party which proclaimed Islam as a way of life, it smacks of hypocrisy when it comes to certain practices.

Kim Quek: If the chairman of PAS’ election committee Asmuni Awi says there has been a systemic, un-Islamic smear campaign waged against the progressive and pro-Pakatan leaders of PAS, it must in all probability be true.

Who would be staging such a dirty election war if not the ulama faction hell bent to prop up incumbent president Abdul Hadi Awang, who is obviously feeling insecure?

Asmuni is right that his election committee must stamp out such malpractice now, as it has not only degraded Islam but it may even cause the party to self-destruct, if such demeaning campaigning is not checked in time to avert the total rout of the progressive leaders from the party’s power structure through the coming party election.

Jalmk: I have one question to Asmuni Awi: if the ulama faction is the one behind the smear campaign will he or the election committee take action; even if it means going all the way up to the top level to catch the culprits?

From my observation as an outsider, I feel the ulama faction is so powerful that it is actually enjoying something like a “demigod” status inside the party. This group it seems can do no wrong, and can do anything it likes in the name of Islam.

But here comes the dilemma: what if they did err and make mistakes? To be honest, I would not be surprised if they come out and announce that this smear campaign is actually acceptable in order to protect Islam; and to be viewed as a “jihad” to battle the enemies of Islam within the party.

Odysseus: It's such an embarrassment to read about how dirty a party which represents Islam can be. I always thought they always proclaim themselves to be cleaner than clean, straighter than straight.

Alas, they are no different from their enemy, Umno. Backstabbing is becoming a norm for PAS. Just like Umno.

Hope: Yes, that is the real face of so-called ulama in PAS. After the departure of spiritual leader Nik Aziz Nik Mat, it is getting worse.

So, what has happened is a blessing for Pakatan. Better to know now rather than later, which might land Pakatan in a situation similar to the Selangor MB saga.

Now we all know the so-called ulama in PAS cannot be trusted at all. If asked to choose BN or PAS, BN is the obvious choice.

Rightan: When it comes to politics, all men and women are the same political animals, that is why religion and politics must be separate in order not to taint the name of religion and also not to interfere in people's private lives which are between them and their creators.

ZZ: PAS has come to an era like the Taliban and Africa's Boko Haram, who campaign like gangsters and is most shameful.

Here is a party that claims to be dominated by many ulama. Ulama lackeys who bring Islam to shame, not those who raise the image of Islam among Malaysians.

Sorry to PAS' Abdul Hadi Awang, you are not material for a statesman, or a religious righteous personality, and you lack the quality of leadership. You are a laughing stock in the eyes of the world media and the international community.

AkuMelayuIslam: What has happened to PAS? If you have gone rotten, don't go around using the word Islam. I am Muslim but I am confused with the actions of this un-Islamic party, what more for those who are not Muslims.

Starwars: Those fellows in PAS are all politicians. They wear a religious mask to hoodwink the people. Being humans, they have their failings.

So don't think of PAS as equal to Islam. Islam is pure and beyond PAS.

Don’t ever think that by wearing those Arabic robes and sporting a beard, people would think that you are very pious and knowledgeable. Malaysians would only admire and respect you if you are talented and contribute to society.

Mohgui: Why am I not surprised with PAS’ dirty tactics? There's nothing Islamic about PAS. Everything is for show.
