A total of 72 houses in Mukim Bagan Sena and Mukim Karangan in Kulim were badly damaged in a storm which occurred at about 3pm yesterday.

Kulim Social Welfare Department (JKM) officer Muhammad Mohd Noor said among the areas which were badly affected in Mukim Bagan Sena were Ladang Bukit Sedim, Bagan Sena, Labu Besar and Jubai Dana, where more than 40 homes were damaged.

“No less than 10 homes had their roofs blown off, while many others had damaged roofs and cracked walls,” he said.

Muhammad disclosed this to reporters after a survey by a team of Kulim JKM officers on the losses incurred by residents in Kampung Jubai, Bagan Sena in Kulim today.  

According to Muhammad, the JKM had been at the evacuation centres since yesterday to present aid in the form of dried foodstuffs, as well as to see to the other needs of the victims.

Yesterday, Kulim state assemblyperson Chua Thiong Ghee also visited and presented aid to the victims in Kampung Kemunting, Kampung Karangan, and Kampung Seberang Jaya in Mukim Karangan.

Chua said that he presented immediate aid to four families in four homes where the roofs had been blown off by strong winds.
