YOURSAY ‘Gerakan is living in its own fantasy world, out of touch with reality.’

G'kan defends sedition vote, says can unseat DAP

Versey: Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng said the government had taken up the party's proposals for "progressive change" and "greater respect for right to free speech" in the updated Sedition Act (for example, amendments to Section 3 where it no longer criminalises criticism against the government and the administration of justice).

If that be the case, why didn't his party ask the government to drop charges against those who criticised the administration, say cartoonist Zunar, MPs Rafizi Ramli and Tony Pua, and many others who had spoken on behalf of the people?

Could it be more likely that Gerakan and MCA MPs know that they themselves are clueless, selfish, heartless and gutless to speak up on behalf of the people's welfare and livelihood for fear of losing their cosy positions, hence want to limit the opposition representatives and the human rights activists to voice out the concern of the people that win them the support from the rakyat, thus you vote in favour of Sedition Act?

Keturunan Malaysia: Stupidity really knows no bound but in this one case, we ought to be thankful to Gerakan’s Liang for 'disclosing' (intentionally or otherwise) to us the reason why he voted for the Sedition Act.

As for 'unseating DAP', it makes our job much more simple to pick who to unseat when the time comes.

SSDhaliwal: Gerakan, what hallucinatory drug are you taking? It’s better just make sure your has-been party doesn’t get annihilated by your warped logic. We will bring you back to reality in the next GE.

Boiling Mud: Gerakan, are you power mad? You voted in favour of the sedition amendments because you want to unseat DAP?

Are you too selfish and dumb to see the impact of this sedition bill will have on the people’s quest for democracy?

Anticonmen: Article 5 of the constitution guarantees liberty of the individual. Article 10 guarantees freedom of speech.

Since 1969, politicians have reneged on this to suit their grip on power and the rakyat's coffers. If Gerakan cannot fight against this, then there is no point claiming to represent Malaysians.

Gerakan is now a totally wash-out party rejected by Malaysians. It’s better to wind up the party and distribute whatever money left to the members.

Dont Just Talk: Liang, stop dreaming about Gerakan unseating DAP. Come the 14th GE, even your president, Mah Siew Keong, will have difficulties defending his Teluk Intan seat which he won by fewer than 250 votes against a DAP novice.

The Sedition Act is only used against Pakatan leaders and NGO/social activists who speak against the Umno Baru government.

If Liang has half the courage of YB Lim Kit Siang, he should move out of his Simpang Renggam seat and stand in urban/sub-urban areas in GE14 and let non-Malay voters show what they think of Gerakan candidates.

Debater : If the "improved" Sedition Act is needed to prevent racial and religious tensions then it should be enforced fairly.

And if the former Sedition Act were to be enforced fairly, there should not be a need to even amend it.

It is just all spin. If anyone still votes for Gerakan or MCA, they just deserved to be played out.

Anonnona: I agree with Liang. The DAP is stupid for opposing such a good bill. The United States, United Kingdom, Australia, international human rights bodies, etc, are also stupid for crticising the sedition bill because they do not see the 'goodwill' in it.

Rick Teo: Liang, this will be your last term. I voted for you last time and this time my family and friends, altogether 34, will never vote for Gerakan again.

Hopefully, you will lose your deposit if you contest again because you and Mah are just running dogs of your Umno master.

Xed: Gerakan should watch out for the Sedition Act being used against its members one day.

Headhunter: Thanks to Malaysiakini , we get to know who the real traitors to the country and our enemies are.

NewMalaysia: These MPs from Gerakan and MCA thought by continuing to support Umno, they will always be taken care of by Umno. Yet without realising it, their support actually helped strengthen Umno.

You can see how Gerakan and MCA are rejected by voters, and many of the ministerial posts once held by MCA and Gerakan have now been passed to Umno.

They are now in self-elimination mode. Soon they will be discarded by Umno in favour of PAS, which has more MPs than both of Gerakan and MCA combined.

Gunnerrun: Gerakan is really living in its own fantasy world, out of touch with reality and the wishes of the people. It still hasn't awakened from its deep slumber.

At least, we know they support the Sedition Act because they know it will never be applied on the members of the party.
