Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Mansor has urged protesters against a church in Petaling Jaya on Sunday to emulate Sabah and Sarawak in forging ties between different religious communities.

"You know, they should follow what is happening in Sabah and Sarawak. Church and a mosque can exist side-by-side.

"During Friday prayers, the church will open the parking lots for Muslims to park their cars in the church.

"On Sunday, the mosque will open their gates for people going to church to park their cars.

"This is the type of things we want, we don't want the thing they (protesters) are doing, it is unbecoming," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Tengku Adnan was referring to pictures of the Good Shepherd Church Lutong and the An-Naim Mosque in Miri, which have been widely circulated on social media recently in response to the protest.

On Sunday, about 50 individuals held a protest against the  Community of Praise Church on grounds that the large red cross outside its building was causing disgruntlement among Muslims in the vicinity.

Following this, church officials removed the cross from the building.

According to their police report, they complied with the protesters' demand to remove the cross out of fear and are now seeking police protection.

Some of the protesters have been identified as Umno members, including Taman Lindungan Jaya branch head Abdullah Abu Bakar and Munaliza Hamzah, who was Umno's candidate for the Taman Medan seat during the last general election.

Cabinet has ordered the police to probe the protesters for sedition.
