Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has dismissed claims that there was a plot among Umno Youth leaders to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

He also urged bloggers making these allegations to be god-fearing and not spread malicious rumours.

"How can you believe blogs? You know, sometimes blogs lie. They have different agenda.

"I talked to (Umno deputy youth chief Khairul) Azwan, he told me no such thing, (what he said) was spinned in a different way," Tengku Adnan told Malaysiakini when contacted.

He was responding to an article on Umno-linked portal MYKMU.net which accused several Umno Youth members including Khairul of a plotting to oust Najib during a meeting of Johor youth leaders in Rompin.

Tengku Adnan, better known as Ku Nan, said the meeting did happen but there was nothing devious about it.

"He had a meeting, correct, but there was no such thing of toppling the president or anything, what was mentioned (in the meeting) was the strategy for the Rompin by-election and what they should do," he said.

No problems with Najib

When asked about the credence of the speculation as it originated from Umno-linked blogs which may be privy to internal information, Tengku Adnan insist that it was mere "spin".

"You can do blogging but my advice is: Please, when you write, all of us have gods.

"No matter what religion you are, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim or whatever your religion is, you have a god, so please fear God.

"Don't simply (write) things which are not true," he said.

He also brushed aside claims that there are elements within Umno that want Najib out even though he conceded that some, such as former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, may disagree with the prime minister's methods.

"We respect whatever views Mahathir has. He can assert on things, no problem with us.

"But I don't think we have a dispute. People claiming such wants to create problems," he said.

Tengku Adnan also reiterated that there is "no problem" with Najib.

"What is the problem with Najib? There is no problem with him. Whatever it is, he's the prime minister trying to bring the country forward.

"Maybe some people don't like (him) because his style is different from other people but what the most important thing for us is to become a developed nation for the people," he said.
