A PAS elected representative believes his party should leave Pakatan Rakyat if the people can no longer accept the Islamic party in Pakatan.

As such, PAS’ Hulu Kelang assemblyperson Saari Sungib said an independent poll should be conducted to see if the opposition coalition is still relevant to the masses.

"Many people are unhappy, be in in the party, outside the party, in PKR, DAP, Pakatan or among voters and supporters," he said.

He said PAS has been forced to walk on eggshells to keep opposing stakeholders happy.

"Like in the Permatang Pauh case, we end up having to negotiate terms, but how long do we need to keep negotiating?

"If it is better for PAS to stay out of Pakatan, and there is solid evidence based on a comprehensive study that shows that PAS should leave Pakatan, and for a new coalition to be formed,” he said.

He told reporters this to clarify his statement in a speech earlier where he said PAS should leave Pakatan, since it has been accused by its partners of betraying the coalition.

He said this at PAS-linked NGO PasMa's convention at Shah Alam earlier today.

Saari is serving a one-year suspension from PAS after he declared support for PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's candidacy as Selangor menteri besar without PAS consent.

Pakatan Rakyat ties grew more strained after DAP cut ties with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang after he submitted a Private Member’s Bill to pave the way for the hudud, without consulting Pakatan.
