The Sessions Court in Butterworth postponed to May 7 the case of PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu who allegedly made disparaging remarks on policemen and their families in August 2011, over the Bukit Kepong communist terrorist attack in 1950.

Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mansor said the date was fixed to enable the court to hand over the relevant notes to the prosecution and defence for submission purposes.

Maziah was speaking to reporters today after the case came up for mention before registrar Siti Sarah Abdul Rahim.

Neither Mohamad, 60, better known as Mat Sabu, nor his lawyer Mohamed Hanipa Maidin were present in court.

Mohamad is alleged to have defamed policemen and their families who defended themselves during the communist terrorist attack on the Bukit Kepong police station in Muar on Feb 23, 1950, by making disparaging remarks which could destroy their good name.

He was said to have made those remarks in a speech at the Pusat Asuhan Tadika Islam (Pasti) Al Fahmi at the Markas Tarbiyah PAS Padang Menora, Tasek Gelugor near Butterworth on Aug 21, 2011.

The accused also faced an alternative charge of belittling three members of the police force - marine constable Abu Bakar Daud, constable Jaafar Hassan and constable Yusoff Rono, as well as their family members at the same time, date and place.
