By-election boosts Rompin’s laundry service

ROMPIN The Rompin Parliamentary by-election not only boost the business of food and grocery shops here but also saw an increase in the demand for laundry services.

Many of the laundry shops in the area cannot cope with the increasing demands so much so that a promise to deliver the washed clothes within 24 hours have to be extended to three to four days despite the hot weather in Rompin due to its proximity to the South China Sea.

Kak Cha Dobi laundry operator Norfalizar Mahusain said her laundromat received many customers even before the nomination day last Wednesday compared to normal days.

“From that day onwards, my laundry services has been working non stop with  clothes received daily increasing to three or four-fold from normally,” she told Bernama in Rompin today.

Norfalizar, who hired three workers, even had to ask her children’s help to manage the high demand received.

Dobi Inspirasi Lavender operator Siti Ayu Norfaizah Jan Mohamad also enjoyed brisk business in view of the by-election that she had to extend her operating hours to 9am to 9pm from 9am to 6pm previously.

She said at present there were many customers coming from outside Rompin and strived to meet her customers’ demand by doubling her daily workforce.

The Rompin Parliamentary by-election on May 5 sees Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Hasan Arifin facing PAS candidate Nazri Ahmad to fill the vacant seat following the death of its incumbent Jamaluddin Jarjis who was killed in a helicopter crash in Semenyih, Selangor on April 4.
