He garnered international stardom with coconuts, bamboo binoculars and his 'magic carpet' after Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 went missing last March.

Ibrahim Mat Zin, who calls himself Raja Bomoh Sedunia Nujum VIP with the title of Datuk Mahaguru, conducted the rituals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

"The purpose of the rituals is to weaken the bad spirits so that the rescuers can find the plane if it indeed had crashed," he told reporters then.

But now, the Perak Fatwa Council would be issuing a fatwa (religious edict) to gazette the infamous Raja Bomoh as deviant.

News reports stated that mufti Harussani Zakaria confirmed this.

He said the decision to issue the fatwa was made at a meeting and they are currently seeking the approval of Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

"The practices and teachings of Raja Bomoh will soon be gazetted as 'haram' (forbidden by Islam) and 'sesat' (deviant) for deviating from religion," he added.

In February, Raja Bomoh appeared in a video where he is seen warding off evil spirits for Anwar Ibrahim outside the Sungai Buloh prison.

The video showed him surveying the area with his trademark bamboo binoculars. He then teed off to drive away "four evil spirts" sent by the jailed politician's nemesis.

He had also visited the site ( left ) where DAP Karpal Singh died in a road accident last year.

Suara TV had then reported that Ibrahim claimed that Karpal's death was caused by disturbances by the "ghost of Gua Tempurung" and that he had gone there to exorcise the evil spirit.
