Promotional material for a speaking engagement by former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Bukit Ibam, Pahang this Saturday are fake, according to the administrator of his blog.

"On behalf of Mahathir's office, we would like to clarify that there is no such event," said the administrator on the chedet.cc.

According to the administrator's post, the fake promotional material were being spread on the Internet.

Bukit Ibam is a tiny mining town located in Rompin, where a by-election campaign is currently ongoing.

Although Mahathir has been on a fervent campaign to unseat Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, he has made no mention of how people should vote in both the Rompin and Permatang Pauh by-elections.

However, all eyes will be on the Mahathir's speech at Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang today as the venue is geographically close to Permatang Pauh.

The Permatang Pauh by-election will see a contest between PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Umno's Suhaimi Sabudin as well as two others.

Whereas the Rompin contest is between Umno's Hasan Arifin and PAS' Nazri Ahmad.

The Rompin polls will be held on May 5 while the Permatang Pauh polls are on May 7.
