Film producer Julie Dahlan died of kidney complications at the Ampang Hospital at 7pm yesterday. She was 62.

Julie Dahlan, whose real name was Junaidah Dahlan, was also a famous actress in the 70s.

Her son-in-law Shamsul Akmar Sahabudin said she had complained of not feeling well at 6pm.

“I immediately called an ambulance and she was coughing blood while being rushed to the Ampang Hospital,” he told Bernama when met at the hospital’s mortuary.

He said she was to be be buried at the Klang Gates Muslim Cemetery at 10am today.

Julie Dahlan leaves behind son Hairi Harmi, 39, and daughter Hani Nur Zara Harmi, 33.

In the 90s, she produced hits like ‘Driving School’ (1990), ‘Harry Boy’ (1991) and ‘Cinta Metropolitan’ (1995).

She owned film production company JD Productions Sdn Bhd which is managed by Hani Nur Zara.

Meanwhile, popular film producer and director Yusof Haslam, who came to the mortuary, said Julie Dahlan as known as the ‘Iron Lady’ in the local film industry for her steadfastness in trying to bring the industry to greater heights.

“I used to work with her in the 70s before I opened my own production house. She taught me the ropes,” he said.

Shamsudin Maidin, a popular actor on the Gerak Khas television series produced by Yusof Haslam and who used to work with the production crew of JD Productions,, said she was a legend in the industry and was “irreplaceable”.
