A photograph of a RM2.5 million cheque, allegedly issued by PBA Holdings Bhd (PBA) and bearing the signature of Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, has gone viral on social media.

The cheque was purportedly issued to Penang PAS Youth chief Mohd Yusni Mat Piah.

However, PBA chief executive officer Jaseni Maidinsa has denied ever issuing a RM2.5 million cheque to Mohd Yusni.

Jaseni ( right ) and corporate services division head Joyce Lee have lodged police reports over the photograph of the 'cheque'.

PBA, through one of its subsidiaries, supplies water to Penang.

The 'fake' cheque bore the signatures of Lee, who held the finance manager post until April 1, and Lim who is PBA chairperson.

Lee is said to no longer have the authority to sign any cheques on behalf of the company.

The report was lodged at the Northeast police district headquarters on Jalan Pattani earlier today.

'We do not issue post-dated cheques'

"We never issued the cheque. We do not issue post-dated cheques, and the date of the cheque on the fake one is May 29,"

"We believe that this is work done by irresponsible parties to mislead the public, to slander and smear the good name of PBAHB," Jaseni said when contacted.

He wants the police to probe the case thoroughly and is considering legal action on grounds of libel and defamation.

Mohd Yusni was embroiled in a spat with PKR Penang Youth when he led the wing and eight others to threaten a boycott of the Permatang Pauh by-election.

However, Mohd Yusni ( right ) made a U-turn yesterday and pledged his wing's support for PKR's candidate and president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

A PAS Penang branch leader today, however, warned Wan Azizah that PAS members will either not come out to vote or spoil their votes in the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Wan Azizah is facing three others - Umno's Suhaimi Sabudin, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Azman Shah Othman, and independent candidate Salleh Isahak - for the parliament seat that goes to polls on May 7.

The wing was miffed with state PKR Youth chief Khairil Annuar Kamaruddin who demanded that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang issue a clear stand on whether the party was planning to form a unity government in Kelantan.

However, PKR has refused to apologise, with Wan Azizah saying it was a non-issue .
