Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu today expressed his disappointment over the attitude of some Muslims who violate the rules and regulations under the Administration of Islamic Religious Affairs (Terengganu) Enactment.

He said factionalism still exist within the Muslim community with regards to performing Friday prayers and building of mosques or suraus without the permission of Terengganu Islamic Affairs and Malay Customs Council (Maidam).

"I urge that these acts be stopped immediately because they contravene the enactment currently in force.

"I want Maidam to handle these problems and, if necessary, take legal actions against those involved. I understand these problems had been going on and nothing had been done by the those responsible.

"Factionalism does not do any good to the Muslim community. On the contrary, it will weaken them and will lead to destruction," he said when officiating the new Sultan Muhammad Mosque in Bukit Besar, Kuala Terengganu.

Also present was Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

The sultan also called on state leaders to work together towards uniting the Muslim community and, in supporting the New Terengganu Transformation (TTB) programme, he also urged that mosques be regarded as a symbol and source of unity.
