Kedah Umno has voiced its support to the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak as well as his effort to resolve problems besetting 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).  

Its information chief Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid said this was expressed by Kedah Umno at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today.  

"We gave our support to the prime minister as he had requested for time to resolve the matter (1MDB) including getting the National Audit Department to audit the company. 

              

"We do not want to put pressure as more pressure will only play into the hands of the opposition," he told reporters after the meeting which was also attended by Kedah Menteri Besar and state Umno liaision committee chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir.  

Mohd Rawi, who is also a state executive councillor, said the meeting today also touched on criticisms by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad against Najib.   

Kedah Umno, according to him, loved both leaders as Mahathir is from Kedah while Najib is Umno president.

"We (Kedah Umno) love both leaders, one is a prime minister and another is our former prime minister. Our love is undivided," he said.

He said in the meeting, Muhkriz also requested the support of Muhyiddin to a Kedah state government proposal to build the Kulim International Airport (KXP) estimated to cost RM1.6 billion.

According to Mohd Rawi, the deputy prime minister requested for a letter and wanted to discuss the matter further with Mukhriz.

In the meeting, he said Muhyiddin had also wanted to know the preparations of the state Umno for the next general election in attracting new voters as well as problems faced by the people due to the effects of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).  

"The deputy prime minister said for BN to continue ruling the state, the state government must identify the problems of the people and settle issues such as housing and others," he said.

If the solution to the problem was beyond the scope of the state government, the deputy prime minister said he was prepared to sit down with them to seek answers, he added.
