PAS' 'treacherous' chief must go
YOURSAY ‘Mat Sabu, everything you say is sensible. The problem is PAS.’
Mat Sabu: Pakatan stronger if I stay PAS No 2
RCZ: PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu (Mat Sabu), choosing you as PAS leader is not a problem. Everything you say is sensible.
The problem is your party and its policies, and its insistence in intertwining religion with politics. The two must always be kept separate. Can you influence your party to do this?
I think you can't, from the way your party is pushing religious tenets down our secular, Federal Constitution-protected throats.
We are watching your party because there are those within it who don't agree with you, and we don't want this continuous fight within the opposition coalition and in Putrajaya if they succeed.
Anonymous #07988903: Saudara Mat Sabu, you are the right man in the wrong party. Unless your treacherous chief is replaced, I am afraid there will be no more PAS to shout about after the next election.
The recent by-election shows that PAS’ hudud agenda has not increased its share of votes among the Malays. While this is happening, be assured that your non-Malay votes will plummet.
Lukesky: I am sorry Mat Sabu, but I think your president has shown, time and again, that he does not listen to either his deputy or the party's central executive council. So what is the point of having a strong deputy, since you have no influence among the ulama in your party?
I am afraid the tea leaves indicate that you, and the rest of the progressives in the party, will be purged from leadership ranks in the coming PAS elections. Shortly thereafter, PAS will officially fall out with Pakatan.
After which, PAS will revert back to its previous status of only being electable in Kelantan. But after their appalling performance in Kelantan in last year’s floods, even that is in doubt.
The Analyser: What exactly is the point of having a strong Pakatan? It’s perfectly clear that the ‘no direction coalition’ is little more than a medium for the power grab of the individuals involved and only pays credit to the needs of Malaysia and Malaysians when it is absolutely necessary.
It’s that clear already. The voters have abandoned the coalition. It’s only the greedy ‘leaders’ who are desperate to keep it together.
Yellowhero: Pak Mat, if the PAS delegates do not elect you, no worries, just resign and join DAP. DAP needs credible Malay leaders like yourself (and Raub MP Ariff Sabri Abdul Aziz) and continue the fight against corruption and injustice for all Malaysians.
Mosquitobrain: Pakatan without PAS can still survive, but even with all of its lawmakers (PKR + DAP), it will not be strong enough to take over Putrajaya.
Pakatan is in need of more moderate leaders like Mat Sabu to stay strong. Otherwise, Putrajaya is but just a dream, and we have to let BN continue its rampages. It's now or never.
Mat Sabu: We will snap BN if snap polls called
Onyourtoes: Mat Sabu, among PAS leaders, I like you best. But I dislike your latest statement on the future of Pakatan.
Look, the differences in Pakatan are not due to misunderstanding. They are due to real differences in fundamental principles.
You said individual opinions by PAS leaders should not be misconstrued as party decisions. Where did you come from? Your party president is tabling the hudud bill and is this the party’s or the individual leader’s decision?
Despite the imbroglio within Umno-BN, I don’t think it is so simple this time for Pakatan to convince the voters. The consensus within Pakatan is as good as dead.
But this time, I want you to take note - we do not want consensus or agreeing to disagree anymore. We want unequivocal declaration and commitment to a secular, progressive Malaysia.
No more messing with theocracy, hudud or whatever. They don’t put food on the table or bring better life for the people.
Look at Kelantan, the flood victims till today are still without a home. Don’t bring this country to Stone Age again, please. I hope your June party polls will settle this once for all.
Jiminy Qrikert: Onyourtoes says it best. The troubles in Pakatan are all down to one man, Hadi.
Really? What about the ulama? Not just the Syura Council but right through the ranks, the small-minded wannabe champions of Islam.
The PAS raison d'être is to establish an Islamic state in Malaysia, to ensure the complete supremacy of Islam. This is never going to change. Ever.
All it takes is for one, just one, mad mullah to rise and prod the illogic of the faithful while stirring their emotions. And when best to do this?
When in Putrajaya? 'PAS for All' is a monumental lie. Mat Sabu is lying to himself and to us.
Odysseus: Mat Sabu may be honest in his opinion about he being the bridge to the non-Muslims. However, we need more than just one person.
PAS needs to show it is an honest and transparent party which supports the secular constitution of this country.
Secondly, Pakatan should not try to win Putrajaya by riding on the weakness of BN. They should show they have much more to offer. We want this country to progress and live up to its full potential.
