It is astounding that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak thought the murder trial of Altantuya Shaariibuu had done justice for him, said DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang.

 

Lim said this in reference to a "frequently asked questions" (FAQ) section on Najib's blog last Sunday, where he addressed Altantuya's death and the conviction of both of his bodyguards for her murder.

 

"What is important is that the judgment brings justice to everyone, most importantly to the family of the victim, to the accused and even to me," Najib had said in reference to the Federal Court's ruling in January.

 

"Did the Federal Court judgment categorically and conclusively rule out any possibility of Najib or anyone else as in any way implicated in Altantuya’s murder, such as ordering that the Mongolian be killed and her body blown up by C4 military explosives?

 

"Of course not, as this issue was studiously and completely avoided during the nine-year trial of (Najib's bodyguards) Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar," Lim said.

 

He also questioned if Najib thinking that the judgment had done justice to him was an admission that there is serious public perception that the PM is implicated in the murder of the Mongolian woman Altantuya Shaariibuu ( photo ) nine years ago.

 

Lim, who is Gelang Patah MP, said as Najib had declared he was not involved in the murder, he should have no qualms about instituting a full inquiry to find out who had instructed the bodyguards to murder Altantuya.

 

Religious oath

He added that Najib's religious oath that he had never met Altantuya could not replace the rigorous process of judicial inquiry.

 

Najib in the FAQ said then prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had received the full investigation papers from the police which cleared him of any involvement in the murder.

 

"Having established the above, it is unfair to force me to investigate this case again and demand to know who, if anyone had ordered the killing. I am not involved and do not know anything about it. 

 

"The court has determined who was guilty of the murder. That should be the end of the story," he had said.

 

Lim also rubbished Najib's claim that the Federal Court ruling had given justice to Altantuya's family as well as the bodyguards.

 

If this was the case, Lim said Altantuya's father Shaariibuu Setev and three other family members would not have proceeded with their RM100 million civil suit against the Malaysian Government for Altantuya’s death.

 

Concurrently, Lim pointed out that Sirul ( photo ) is being held in an Australian detention centre where he is seeking for asylum after claiming he was only acting on orders.

 

Altantuya was founded dead in a forest area in November 2006 where she was shot and then blown up with military explosives.

 

Najib's close associate Abdul Razak Baginda was also charged for abetting Altantuya's murder but was acquitted by the Shah Alam High Court in 2008. The prosecution did not appeal.
