It is an obligation for Muslims to vent their anger at DAP for opposing the implementation of hudud in Kelantan, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said today.

Hadi argued that Islamic law concerns the Muslims and not the non-Muslims.

"Anger is human nature. If not, we are not human. We express anger based on what is permitted by Allah.

"DAP disagrees with hudud, and makes statements opposing its implementation in Kelantan. So we have an obligation (to safeguard Islam). So we are angry.

"We have to be angry. As Muslims, we must be angry (over this issue)," he added.

Hadi said this in response to a question from the audience at the Bicara Harakah programme in Kuala Lumpur

Hudud in Pakatan

To a question as to how should PAS bring the Islamic agenda including hudud within the Pakatan Rakyat framework, Hadi replied it is compulsory for the party to introduce Islam through political, economic, social and other approaches.

Besides this, he said the party emphasised on sins and rewards in the hereafter in all forms of daily life from politics to economy.

This, he added, differentiates Islam from other religions or ideologies.

"Hence, we will introduce Islam in stages," he said.

Reminiscing the party's history in the general elections, Hadi said the party formed the Kelantan state government in 1990 and the Terengganu state government in 1999 and introduced Islamic criminal law (hudud).

"We adopt the democratic approach and try to implement it (hudud) in states where we have the majority that is Kelantan and Terengganu," he said.

The PAS president explained that in formulating hudud law, the party takes into consideration all views including those voiced by non-governmental organisations, political parties and Islamic scholars.

"The laws concern criminal offences done by Muslims are applicable to Muslims only. This does not affect non-Muslims.

"If there are non-Muslims involved, they are given a chance to choose (civil) or otherwise. We cannot force them," he said.
