The Selangor government has been urged to provide an alternative site for the Sri Maha Madurai Veeran temple which was demolished by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) recently.

MIC Youth secretary Arvind Krishnan said Pakatan Rakyat had promised to provide land for places of worship for all religious groups and thus must help the temple.

"It is clearly stated in their election pledges. Don't tell me this is an empty promise?" Arvind ( photo ) told a press conference at the party headquarters today.

The temple located on Jalan Harapan, Petaling Jaya was demolished on May 13 during a pre-dawn raid.

Arvind claimed that temple officials have previously met Selangor exco member V Ganabatirau about their plight, but they could not come up with a solution.

Given the runaround

He claimed that temple officials were also given the runaround by the authorities.

The Petaling Jaya district land office had written to the temple officials on Feb 23 and April 16, informing them that the temple must be demolished as it was sitting on state land.

According to Star Metro , MBPJ spokesperson Zainun Zakariah said the temple was located on a road shoulder and must make way for road widening works.

When contacted, temple secretary T Anvalagan said he was unaware of any notice from the authorities to vacate the premises.
