RapidKL to introduce double-decker buses in September

Public transport providers RapidKL are expected to introduce double-decker buses in the Klang Valley, especially in the city, by September.

Rapid Bus chief executive officer Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff in a statement today said 90 drivers (captains) of RapidKL were currently undergoing training to handle such services.

“The special training for captains are conducted at the Rapid Bus Academy which has various facilities, including bus simulators to train the captains and to handle passengers efficiently,” he said in the statement.

Zulkifli, who is also the Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) Bus Division group director, said the double-decker buses would be for long haul routes with high volume of passengers.

However, the 40 routes to be services by the double-decker buses have yet to be decided but discussions are ongoing.

On May 15, Prasarana carried out a pre-launch of the double-decker buses with a height of 4.2m and which come complete with mini cafe, toilet, Wifi and disabled friendly (OKU) facilities and can accommodate up to 108 passengers at one time.
