Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today said he was pleased that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia chose to remain in his position after initially wanting to resign.

Najib, who was presenting the Eleventh Malaysia Plan in Parliament, had addressed the speaker, calling Pandikar "tuan yang di-pertua" but then added "who is still the yang dipertua" and laughed.

"I feel good ( senang hati ) that the yang di-pertua is still the yang di-pertua," he said as the House broke into laughter.

On Tuesday, a disgruntled Pandikar admitted that he had handed in his resignation letter to Najib but decided to remain in the post.

This, Pandikar said, was after Najib refused to open his letter and promised to address his grouses.

Among Pandikar's unhappiness was over Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Shahidan Kassim, who is in charge of parliamentary affairs, interfering in the former's duties.

BN backbencher chief Sharir Samad had also revealed that Pandikar was upset at the shabby furnishing in his office which did not have a toilet, stating that this could have been the last straw.

Pandikar was forced to make a public statement despite his aborted resignation after former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad revealed the matter in a talk last Sunday.
