A 15-year-old schoolgirl and her 22-year-old boyfriend were among four couples detained in an operation by Malacca Islamic Religious Department (Jaim) early today.

Jaim director Ismail Hamid said the form three school student from Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah and her partner were detained in a room of a budget hotel in Jalan Tun Ali at 2.50am.

"Jaim will inform the matter to her parents and the school authority," he told reporters today.

Three other couples aged 22 to 34 years were also nabbed in the three-hour operation involving two hotels in Kampung Lapan and Malim.

"The couples detained include an Indonesian woman aged 28 and a Bangladeshi man aged 34. Both were married with families," said Ismail.

They were detained under Section 53 of the Malacca Syariah Offences Enactment 1991 for close proximity, an offence punishable by a RM3,000 fine or 24 months jail or both, upon conviction.
