The coalition Citizens Against Rape (CAR) will be holding a walk soon at Kuala Lumpur Sogo to call for the expansion of the definition of rape in the penal code.

The walk is called #HentikanRogol and will be held on June 7 at 4pm. It will begin at KL Sogo and end at KLCC.

This demand comes in response to the acquittal of 60-year-old Bunya Jalong of one count of rape and three counts of statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl, despite her giving birth to his son.

The conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeal because he said he used a finger tainted with his semen to penetrate her instead of his penis.

This falls outside the current definition of rape according to the law, which defines rape as penetration by penis into vagina under involuntary circumstances.

Spokesperson for All Women's Action Society (Awam) Lee Wei San said that the man's acquittal on "technical grounds" was unacceptable.

"We are angry and we want to make demands," Lee ( photo ) said.

CAR plans to start a petition at the walk and hopes to get around 3,000 to 5,000 signatures, Lee said.

However, they have not yet decided which agency would be the most effective to submit it to.

"We are calling on the government to please work with us," said Lee.
